No, you can’t get the flu from the flu vaccine.

The temporary side effects that you might feel after getting the vaccine are your immune system reacting to the inactive proteins from the surface of the virus.
What doctors say about one of the biggest flu shot myths
“The influenza vaccine shows the immune system what potential components of the virus it should focus its efforts on,” one expert said.

Begging PhD programs to agree on a common app with only letters of rec that writers upload once. These inane likert scales when students are applying to 15-20 programs is destroying my soul

Hear! Hear! Now when are we going to get rid of the ridiculously subjective "ratings"?
Like @peiferlabunc.bsky.social I am thankful for schools that have made it easy to submit letters of reference for their graduate applicants (although a single letter on Interfolio should suffice for this). I am also not a fan of schools that make things more complicated than they need to be.

So happy to announce our new preprint, “A geothermal amoeba sets a new upper temperature limit for eukaryotes.” We cultured a novel amoeba from Lassen Volcanic NP (CA, USA) that divides at 63°C (145°F) 🔥 - a new record for euk growth!
