part of the reason people don't want the history of this period taught or understood is to make this illegible to people. it's easy to swallow thought ending cliches about which venerated figure was a "man of their times" if you remain studiously unaware of what their times actually were

Lots of people are in an abusive relationship with the NYT, and I just want to say to them: they're constantly gaslighting and negging you. Once in a while they'll do something nice and you latch onto that hoping they've changed, but they haven't and they won't. You deserve better. Time to move on.

ICE has only existed since 2003. A Bush-era creation, it is a militarized federal secret police that has been imbued with the Supreme Court with the unconstitutional power to ignore the fourth amendment.
