SIMON: I mean, what you're saying to me, effectively, is there's no original way to do anything and...

SHAPIRO: That seems like a kind of absolutist take.

SIMON: Not only I think is it a fundamental violation of the integrity of writers and also of copyright to - you know, when I sold all the scripts I sold, you know, 150 to HBO and, you know, maybe another 50 to NBC, I didn't sell them so that they could be thrown into a computer with other people's and be used again by a corporation. So...

SHAPIRO: So would you ever agree to a contract that saw any role for AI at all?

SIMON: No. I would not.

I had a polite discussion with someone about AI in a coffee shop. I tried to explain to them that it was just a plagiarism machine, he replied "but look, I can summarize a book in seconds! Isn't this amazing!?" I merely said, "I prefer to do my thinking for myself."

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.

My dumb ass being surprised that I should actually write out my ideas instead of leaving them in my head to think over, because physically writing them out helps my brain solve problems that it couldn't pick up on without visual stimuli

I mean, we could make content that we own... When you have even "indie" studios opening satellites in France, and this threat of "100% Tariffs" on foreign made media, seems like the only way forward imho

It's crazy to me to see this wave of unionizations at the same time we see studios just outsource to a different part of the world. First it was Vancouver, now it's Europe. It just seems like we're playing catch-up and the conglomerates are winning.
