Allegro no Troppo was a 1976 parody of Fantasia, a movie from 1940 that was mostly a forgotten flop until changing societal trends catapulted its 1968 rerelease to masterpiece consensus.

What would be the equivalent 90s movie reassessed in the 10s to get a parody movie in the 20s?

Love that AI, a thing we hate and don’t want, steals everything, ruins everything, shittifies everything. Drinks our water, plagiarizes our art, pisses all over our information fidelity, drives kids to suicide, serves the right-wing, and fucks up our devices and services. Good job, techbros!

This is fucking me up because there's an actually good movie called The Breadwinner from 2017 based on a book by the same name.

It's about an Afghan girl who's forced to pose as a man and provide for her family after the Taliban abduct her father. It's like, basically, the opposite of this

Therapist: Did you see that woman who made a fool of herself before Congress? I forget her name.
Me: Kristy Noem, the one who killed a dog.
Therapist: That’s why I forgot, her name sounds like a fake name. Like a filler character.
Me: …she does have a lot of filler.

They raided the jailed children to steal their letters.

The problem, in federal officials' minds, wasn't confining children in prison-camp conditions; it was that the children could tell the public about it.
“I don’t want to be in this place I want to go to my school.”

Today, after @propublica.org published this story, the camp was raided to confiscate letters from the children.

Every story out of Dilley makes me think of Rep. McIver asking DHS officials:

"Do you think you're going to hell?"

Television is usually the realm of serialized storytelling, but sometimes an episode of a TV show comes along that rivals a feature film for narrative impact.

it is remarkable how much this problem is the mirror image of every real filmmaker (has ideas, but no money)
AI filmmaking is completely unserious.

You've got people with $30k begging the internet for ideas by next week because they have nothing of their own to say, it's just slop for the sake of slop. Embarrassing state of affairs.

to really dial in on this for a minute: if you have a few hard drives, a GPU, and some RAM, you can do pretty much anything these cunts can *but good*. and they don't want that. they really, really don't.
i think lots of people underestimate how badly these “AI” companies want people to be unable to afford computers. they view personal computing as a roadblock to their desire for complete end-to-end centralization. the fact that their tech is putting hardware out of reach is not just a happy accident

May this one day happen to them.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Lowest I've rated an anime film on Letterboxd was Poupelle of Chimney Town, though I watched a "color-spoiled" screener that made all the animation look even worse than it normally is.

My hot take is that one scene completely ruins Wings of Honneamise.
In honor of today's viewing of Scarlet, I'm going to throw out a question to y'all: what's the worst anime movie you've seen?

Hard mode: no compilation films (because let's be real, most of them aren't good to begin with).

They want to scare people out of posting ICE-critical content, because they know these posts are turning even their supporters against them. But the better option is to take a page out of their playbook and flood the zone.
Posting about ICE on Instagram is now enough to get you an “administrative subpoena.” 👀

There’s going to be Covid style shortages of cars, TVs and even washing machines and fridges, then job losses because assembly lines can’t source solid state memory, just so the stupidest person you know can state with 100% confidence a chatbot confirmed dinosaurs coexisted with humans.
I understand framing the AI bubble RAM supply crisis in terms of stuff like video game consoles because nerds can conceptualize that but the framing does really undersell the sheer magnitude of how it's going to fuck up everything that even touches a computer.
