I get asked a lot about “what’s wrong at Xbox?” This is my answer. Organizations go through waves of this pattern. Sales of games from these organizations follow the pattern, and go up and down, feeding into it. It’s a crazy roller coaster. Especially at a big company that has other non-games biz.

You will hear that “it’s time to grow up!” and “this is how the world works!” but paradoxically, the fortunes of the organization will start to wane. Gamers, as you know in your gamer heart, don’t give a shit about EBITDA or KPIs. They pay you when you give them a game they love. Simple but hard!

If you love games, make games well, and consider business to be a necessary evil, these folks will really frustrate you. Some of your friends will inevitably decide that success requires becoming like them, and it will feel like they have turned to the dark side. If you’ve been here you know. 😔

To be fair, in 1995 there was a lot more innovation than there is today. It was hella exciting and also terrifying to be a game dev back then.

Also the guy who wrote the renderer for this game had the best white guy dreads EVER.
"It's not often in today's gaming world that you get something completely and totally new, but that's exactly what Descent was 30 years ago in 1995."
Remembering Descent, the once-popular, fully 3D 6DOF shooter
Descent is a big part of gaming history, but not many people talk about it.

Back a looong time ago I was writing physics engines and it was lonely. You had to explain what that was, and it was fucking hard.

Anyway, This kind of game sounds like what I dreamed of.
Belated post on my Creative Bloq indie spotlight this weekend, which is Awaysis, with its revolutionary physics-based combat animation, which also is a collaboration with some major veteran Japanese creators including character artist Satoshi Matsuura www.creativebloq.com/3d/video-gam...
I grew up on 16-bit games – Awaysis feels like the evolution I've been waiting for
So, what's the story?

That sh*t doesn't happen by accident.
What?!?! The EPA has drafted a plan to eliminate all pollution controls from coal and gas-fired power plants. The agency claims these plants “do not contribute significantly” to dangerous pollution or climate change, arguing their emissions are a small and declining share of global totals.

I cannot possibly adequately emphasize how completely unlike chocolate these bitter, woody, pulp slathered seeds are.

But, if you can stay awake you will see a (very, VERY slow) miracle unfold through invisible microbial action.

Slow and invisible. That’s the excitement level here. Still sober?

We have removed all the seeds from the pods, and have inoculated them with microbes collected from our last fermentation. There is both a fungal (yeast) and also a bacterial fermentation step, which we will distinguish by monitoring temperatures in the pile.

The empty cacao pods are great compost!

I pass by this ancient cattle trough in my local woods. It's not been used for over a century. Covered in moss and lichen. Most days I just walk by, some I stop and wonder. Suspended between the past and the future. What will our planet be like in another 100 years? 🌱

That's honestly another legit way to look at it.
We ALREADY have lots of programs that act as a "UBI".. just called something different.
It'd be nice if our Gov. could get its act together & CARE for America better, rather than send off money everywhere else. *Sighs*
The perception of Universal Basic Income is mistakenly seen as a handout, when in fact it’s an investment. An investment in human potential, creativity, and overall well-being. Let's reframe the narrative around UBI and recognize its true power to uplift and embolden our society.
