On similar lines, I was thinking recently about why I have strong objections to AI's appropriation of existing IP when digital sampling has allowed for that since the late 80s

But there are several crucial differences: for one thing, sampling is often (but not always) about *citation* 1/x

I think I put my finger on why I hate prompt-based AI music generation so much from an education perspective. It isn't about the output (though I do hate that.) It isn't the "inhuman" nature of it (whatever, I am fine with people programming 808s.) It's the part about "accessibility."

I know the cruelty is the point, but normally I can at least identify a fig leaf, a flimsy excuse that someone who wants to support the cruelty anyway could use to convince themself some other point exists. But with this, I can't even begin to fathom what that would be. It's quite literally inhuman.

I used to do a thing where I'd make myself come up with 10 different titles before I was allowed to commit to one. I stopped 'cause I hate thinking about titles and thumbnails, but maybe I need to start again. It almost always resulted in an improvement over my initial idea.

For almost a decade now, my song analyses have all used the same "Understanding [song name]" title. It's iconic to my work, but youtube isn't the same place it used to be, so now that I have access to A/B testing for titles... I think I'm gonna have to try some options.
