🇨🇦 FORD'S CONTRACT TEAR-UP OFFENDS RULE OF LAW 🇨🇦
You know those parking garage signs claiming no liability? That is the new vibe at Queen's Park. The "Open for Business" premier is rewriting the rules.
The Globe Editorial Board reports.

It is not exactly a "get-out-of-jail-free" card, but it is close.
From the Greenbelt to speed cameras, the government ensures contracts can be broken without penalty.
This government erected "Open for Business" signs across Ontario. The Editorial Board suggests a fine print update:
"Rules and contracts may be changed in the government’s favour."
Without contract certainty, the free market foundation crumbles.
The bill specified the government could not be held responsible for resulting deaths or injuries.
During the Greenbelt saga, it even shielded itself from court awards if employees "acted in bad faith."
Ford is unwinding his own 2019 legislation that allowed them.
He calls them a cash-grab, prioritizing law-breaking drivers while doing an end-run around the legal consequences of breaking contracts with camera providers.
"The system can’t function if governments arbitrarily change the rules from one day to the next."
Rushed bills and curtailed public input only deepen the concern.
If agreements are merely suggestions to be legislated away when convenient, "Open for Business" becomes a warning label rather than a welcome mat.

“From training new doctors to connecting them with patients, the Ontario government’s lack of planning has cost the province badly needed primary care resources…”
“Every province and territory in Canada, except Ontario, has a centralized physician recruitment model…”
