I recently participated in a journaling exercise where I was asked to have a dialogue with a societal issue by personifying it and writing a conversation as if it was a person. Here is my dialogue with Capital Punishment.

For those who say “Illegal is illegal.”

On this Juneteenth, remember: slavery was once legal. Harboring a fugitive enslaved person? Illegal. Black freedom? Illegal. “Illegal is illegal” has always been used to defend injustice.

Legality ≠ morality. Justice calls us higher.

“Every powerful human eventually dies like all the rest and is buried. What does not have to be buried is the vigilant witness of concern for those whose voices may not otherwise be heard.” - Patricia K. Tull

It's never about the science. It's always about having a legal basis for your fear and hatred of other people.
My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic
Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male

Worthwhile words from Mahogany L. Browne's Introduction in Woke: A Young Poet's Call to Justice

What does it mean to be woke?
"In the simplest sense, it means to be aware. It means to see your surroundings and challenge how we strengthen our relationships with government, the community, and nature🧵

Is this a valid Trinitarian formula?

God the Parent, God the Child, God the Ancestor

At least a dozen times in the Bible, Jesus is described as being “moved by compassion” to help someone in need.

I just can't imagine a scenario where we get to heaven and Jesus says...

"You were way too empathetic and compassionate. Don’t you know empathy is toxic?”

The growing rhetoric of expanding the death penalty is concerning. Here are some thoughts I shared with Baptist News Global.

Letter to the Editor: The moral urgency of abolishing the death penalty – Baptist News Global
Imagine being given a choice on how you die, but the options are limited to electrocution, lethal injection or a firing squad.

@kaine.senate.gov can we revise the opening statement to say “have no problem turning their backs on all Americans except the wealthiest.”

Here's the statement every American athlete - especially those playing in Canada - has to commit to memory for the next three and a half years (or more, or less). Clip and save a copy of this, if you'd like. I'm giving this away for free:

Preaching and teaching the gospel should never be hortatory, but revelatory. A sermon should not end with "let us..." but with promise--a scriptural promise from the Father in Jesus Christ with the power of the Spirit.

(and by the way, politicians should never say "I promise you...")

What are the values/virtues you want your kids to have?

How then, do you get them to practice or embody those virtues?

I’ve had a book idea for years exploring what love is and I always wonder how people would define love in just one word?

Placing wagers on people’s performance leads us to view them as less than human.

How long before sports betting is illegal again? How many athletes-pro or college- will have to endure harassment or worse to make us realize people’s pain isn’t worth the supposed profits?
From @theathletic.bsky.social: The legalization of sports gambling has led to players being harassed online like never before. Knicks star Jalen Brunson said his family, including his months-old daughter, have been threatened. They call him racial slurs. They demand money. nyti.ms/3WXB53u

Long term, the future of sport, especially team sports is to restructure them to be inclusive for all. It’s time to recognize that everyone brings something unique to the games we play!

Talking to my toddler about Jesus. Told her Jesus loves her and all the little children.

She replied: And the grownups too?

Me: Yes, and the grown ups too.

A huge catch of fish. So what do Peter, James, and John do with this windfall that Jesus works for their business? "They left everything and followed him" (Luke 5:11) So much for the prosperity gospel. #HomilyBleat

Is faith a yes/no question?

Do you have faith?
Select one:

YES - Yes - yes - no - No - NO

If faith is like a seed, what it will produce relies on where that seed is placed.
