i did a few management courses at uni. A lot of it felt like stating the blindingly obvious (if you treat workers well, they’re less likely to quit, golly!) but I was the only home student in most seminars and clearly that course was cross-funding A LOT of STEM degrees.

I'm not sure if it's the case anymore but I've seen a few companies using them as a way to underpay entry level staff. BA is an interesting example. Some of the engineering ones seem legit, some just seem a way of hiring ground staff on the cheap. careers.ba.com/apprentices#...

They're doing a lot to put off the rural voters that did deliver them a few seats last time. It's an understandable strategy but at the moment, come crunch time it does feel like the end result would be them piling up a lot of second places in urban constituencies.

Yup, the South Korean gambling law only really applies if you're famous and do something that the country feels embarrassed by. Seen plenty of Koreans at Vegas tables without a care in the world.

Albania is probably the best UK example of somewhere that's fairly willing to have people repatriated. The big problem is a lot of people come from places like Iran, Afghanistan and Syria where it's much more difficult (although I suppose Syria could be about to shift).

But also, the bit of Australia that never gets mentioned is that Australia's net migration figures are very high! Their 2024 figure was 371,000, that would be almost a million in the UK if you adjust the figures for population proportionality and that's after falling 30%!

I did a 4 month teetotal phase after lockdown (my drinking had crept up and I wanted to prove to myself that I could). Non alcoholic beer is genuinely pretty great now, I still drink it on the occasional weeknight, non-alcoholic prosecco too (the Kylie one is great!) Still wine, not so much.
