A Palestinian, son of Palestinians displaced from Gaza (Al-Masmiyya) to Jordan, wins the Nobel Prize in Chemistry... Professor Omar Munis Yaghi from the University of Berkeley!!

..Some members of the Yaghi family are still under the rubble in Gaza!

UC’s Academic Council calls on the Office of the President & the UC Board of Regents to unequivocally reject governmental demands that compromise institutional autonomy and #academicfreedom.

This is the way.

THIS IS THE WAY.

Everyone gets their knickers in a twist when I say we can’t sci-comm our way out of this mess…but maybe you’ll listen to the more eloquent and measured @edyong209.bsky.social!

This isn’t happening because people don’t appreciate the brilliance of the double helix structure.

This moment from our latest episode with science writer @edyong209.bsky.social is 🔥

We asked Ed — how do we talk up the benefits of science in the face of government cuts? He told us that's the wrong approach. 🧪

imprinting is the least of it - asking mature oocytes to segregate chromosomes that have not gone through meiotic prophase is a losing proposition.

Please share with anyone who cares about NSF support for graduate students and take 30 seconds to sign and leave a comment.

The deadline for the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program is about one month away and literally no one can apply. #NSFGRFP

At this exact time and date — 14:19 Eastern US time on September 22, 2025 — the center of the Sun is directly over Earth's equator (in technical terms, it has a declination of 0°), marking the moment of the September equinox.

Happy equinox!

Although this bill passed both legislative chambers, nine legislators—champions of CFA—sided with California teachers and abstained from voting.

We urge you to tell Governor Gavin Newsom to veto AB715 by adding your signature here. 📩

I don’t think yeast –>fly–>mouse is how evolution works.

These are welcome changes that will all improve the ERC program. I particularly appreciate the transparent and sound logic that Dr. Leptin has used in explaining the changes (and also the non-changes, particularly a 2-stage review with the longer application submitted only after Stage 1).

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion, after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year alone.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country is getting squeezed by tariffs and high prices for groceries, utilities, and health care.

The system is broken.

Speak up before more is lost. UCLA lost $600M in federal research grants, freezing work on cancer, neurodegeneration, pediatrics & more. Entire labs, careers, and patients remain in limbo. A devastating blow to US science. Trainees are hardest hit, the community must speak up before more is lost.
Frozen Grants, Canceled Futures: The Human Toll of UCLA’s Research Suspension
A frozen grant is more than halted experiments and lost data; it is a career derailed for many of the trainees dependent on this research support.

Hey. You know what. Maybe don't say the CDC "needs new blood" weeks after a shooting that could have been a mass casualty situation.

SHAMELESS.
