…and the reason they THINK that is…. Their personal lived experience? Or exposure to right-wing media??

You can either leave, or you can start talking about what the platform has become and directly engage with the trash that's proliferating there. But simply pretending it isn't happening is making you a willing accomplice in the spread of cartoonishly evil far-right extremism.

More than that. If you hang out with assholes, you become one!

…so prices will be basically zero, but my salary will be literally zero…. unless I missed a detailed proposal for UBI somewhere? (Which is an entirely different can of worms I think…)

Also means they can’t PRETEND they’d vote for awful shit while hiding behind the filibuster, they’d have to ACTUALLY vote on that awful shit knowing it could become law…

/9 ....I'm more inclined to say that giving the state the power to suppress speech leads to worse results and worse injustices, and less inclined to say that free debate inherently leads to better results and the truth. I'm negative-consequence rather than positive-consequence focused.

Weren’t a bunch of center-left pundits panicking well before the debate, though, which might be what she’s referencing? Or is my memory just absolute trash these days?

Another similarly depressing option is that Trump’s ineptitude won’t just cause an American crash, but a global one, which means it’s not clear where you’d want to move your money as a hedge, and investors are sitting pat out of paralysis. bsky.app/profile/nwei...
There may also be tallest pygmy syndrome at work here. It's not like other asset classes (including international ones) are going to be unaffected by the loss of US central bank independence! "How do I hedge against this" is a hard, hard question for an investor to answer right now.

Isn’t a catch-22 of sorts, in a sense? Democrats often promise to do good things, but that they can only enact with either Republican support (unlikely to very unlikely) OR by winning 60 seats in the Senate. Not sure how you roll that into campaigning, but needs to happen and very loudly…🤷‍♂️

Trump just says things that the audience likes. He never even thinks about the consequences of those things and when the moment of truth arrives he escapes it by saying more things. He’s never been meaningfully held accountable for anything he’s said so why would he think about it
