It's really neat that I get to be one of the weirdos who lives in your phone. Here to post about scifi, TTRPGs, politics, civics and other nerd shit. On a quest to be the world's OK-ist swordsman. Profile from: https://star-trek-dumb-comics.tumblr.com/

Another 100 followers, another introduction post. Hi, I'm Havoc. I'm an anarchist and antitheist. I should post more about video games and TTRPGs, but the world is how it is and this is my rant space to keep from blowing up in meatspace.

This is solved by a good stretching routine, but this seems to be a cheat code because nobody fucking told me until my mid 30s.

They're great live! I saw them in a tiny venue where you could feel the music. You could tell they were thrilled to be there, it was one of the better shows I've ever been to.
The Hu, about 30 ft away from me in a tiny ass venue!

I am impressed. This is a huge lift. Been happy to support BlackSky for a while now, and I'll be happy to be under their moderation sometime soon.

I've been radio silent because I'm in the process of standing up an app.bsky.* API server (aka app-view aka Barnes & Nobles). This is an expensive and time intensive operation that I didn't want to do until it was necessary.
It's a fail-safe not a differentiator in experience, but important 7/11

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

in case anyone needs to see umeko rushing through the mech fight because she's late for her date. she really jumps into the enemy mech to throw the pilot overboard and everyone's so speechless

It's less interesting than the original Omelas, but has a different facet: Maybe you wouldn't betray your ethics for big things, but people will go FAR down bad roads for small comforts when it doesn't hurt anyone they know or care about.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
Shit, that might be how I'd rewrite the episode: The Federation offers, they consider it, and conclude their medical tech leads to 5 extra years of life expectancy over the Federation, and their people when asked in a referendum choose to keep the status quo.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
Which is still an interesting question! Is the tech edge worth child murder? What gadgets are you prepared to give up to save the suffering of someone you will never meet? Would you shave a few years off of life expectancy just for ideological purity?
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
And they meet the Federation! A post scarcity society!

It would have been a lot more interesting had Pike offered to just...bootstrap their society to fix their tech. And made them reckon with it instead of being grossed out and leaving.

Like, do you pursue solutions even if they're uncomfortable?
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
There's also the people that work to dismantle Omelas. If you spend your life working to make a system where that suffering isn't required, it's a different thing than accepting it or walking away.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
Maybe just put in anti-brigading mechanisms? You'd get the big accounts as well if your policy is "Every account that gets X reports/X reports in Y time/X reports on a post gets escalated to someone(s) we trust to take full ass responsibility on behalf of the team."

The irony for the record is if you ask chatgpt how to stop global warming it basically just says the standard left/neolib tilt (move to renewables with a jobs program, tax carbon, require strict enforcement, better ag), the issue is not knowing the path forward it's the power to enact it lol.

NO! UNDERGROUND ILLEGAL DEATH MATCH TOURNAMENT ARC!
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
First season is the formation of the club, second season is the tournament. Third season the code duello gets reinstated as you run for office or some shit idk.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
@kythkyn.bsky.social has me thinking about our #HEMA club as a sports anime, and I can't stop plotting it out. I can't draw for shit, send help or a mangaka.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
My point was that individual asshole users aren't really the problem, but that too. Rules and a robust list of "slurs you can't call blocklists" would probably be a good idea.
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
You are in a business with a human cost. People will care about that. If you want to wash your hands of that, prioritize decentralizing and mod tools so you can do bare minimum legal enforcement, get your IPO, and run off with too much money into the sunset, far away from the rest of us. /fin
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
When someone has a national platform based on hurting your users, is cited in legal proceedings by those trying to harm them, and you contort to claim they're just following the rules, that decision to encourage them is on you. Include an "I wasn't born yesterday" high profile offender clause. /3
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
The big issues with toxicity seem to be more of systems put in place than individual users. Calling out large profiles days after the fact feels like someone is playing the refs. Bans at the AppView level make it seem like decentralization isn't the goal, control is. /2
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
In an attempt to respond in good faith: You have had at least two experts in the field respond on this thread, and/or offering their services at one point or another. Engaging with them might be prudent over a commentary period.

For my experience? Blocklists and labelers work for individuals. /1

What foods do you love that you fully acknowledge make you a pervert for loving them?
afterthehavoc.blackskycomra.de
I figure this all shakes out if we get competing mod policies. Pick your lane(s), get banned from the instances that are assholes, get lauded by the ones that are righteous.

I have mostly stayed out of Bluesky drama, but I am PISSED at this situation.

Between the awful PR disaster that has been @jay.bsky.team's posts over the last few days, to this ban, I have MUCH less faith in Bluesky PBC as an entity that can pull off managing actual, decentralised social media.

So, apparently Bluesky PERMANENTLY banned someone for posting a single Charlie Kirk meme.

AJ is a fantastic community builder who had a big account & is an adjunct prof at Howard University. The idea that he doesn't even deserve a first warning is absurd.
aliafonzy.blacksky.app
Unfortunate update: Link reached out to BlueSky and got email back now on reason.

His appeal is denied. He will remain permanently banned on BlueSky’s side.

Here are the screenshots he just sent me as of 8:22 AM EST(my time)
