I sat in on a focus group with Latinos last year, where several people expressed that belief. I wonder what those people think now.
Lots of conversations at the multilingual phonebank I ran last year with immigrant citizens who thought deporting dangerous criminals sounded great, not realizing the true plan was to target and terrorize whole communities based on skin color and national origin.

I agree with this. Most people who heard “mass deportation” implicitly added “of criminals and recent migrants” to the phrase, something which the Trump campaign itself supported through surrogates like Tom Homan who even during the transition was talking about how the focus would be on “criminals.”
