Some thoughts on Wednesday-night’s tragic air accident near Washington, DC:

The mid-air collision of American Airlines flight 5342 and a US Army VH-60 helicopter is highly personal for me. It literally hits close to home as I live approximately three miles away from National Airport.

Other prosecutors are investigating former CIA director John Brennan, another prominent Trump critic, and former FBI director Christopher Wray, who was originally appointed by Trump but enraged conservatives who came to believe he had wielded the bureau’s powers against them. Former officials have received subpoenas in recent days in the Wray inquiry, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Burning a flag is inciting a riot. Insulting Trump or a Republican is inciting a riot. Ditto blasphemy or being trans in public. Every action becomes a federal felony if the DOJ doesn't like it.

They are essentially federalized goons.

You are correct to say they don’t deserve the honor. But there’s a lot of dishonorable conduct going on in Congress, too.

A USN battleship with a Navy aircraft flying over.

USS Washington (BB-56), the second of two battleships in the North Carolina class, was the third ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the 42nd state. Her keel was laid down on 14 June 1938 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Launched on 1 June 1940, Washington went through fitting-out before being commissioned on 15 May 1941 with Captain Howard H. J. Benson in command. In early 1942, Washington and twenty other American ships were the first to be equipped with fully operational radar. She has the distinction of being the only American battleship to sink an enemy battleship during World War II in a "one on one" surface engagement.

The aircraft is a TBM Avenger torpedo bomber. President GHWBush flew a similar aircraft during WWII.

I’m going to disagree with you here. They are federal agents. And that is important because it should give Congress some control over them.

Yes, they are clearly functioning as Trump’s personal thugs.

But they are not out of the realm of control of other authorities, if only they would act.
