New neurons are generated throughout adult life in the adult neurogenic niche in the hippocampus through activation of reversibly quiescent neural stem cells (NSCs). The cover highlights DCX+ immature neurons (blue) in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of a conditional mutant mouse for Sox5, with recombined Sox5 deficient cells in magenta. 6️⃣And not just in🧫!! We confirmed BMP upregulation in P14 🐁!! Strikingly, when we used a specific BMP inhibitor around P14 🐁, we partially rescued the over-activated neurogenesis seen in P30 Sox5 mutants. This stresses the role of BMP signalling in the acquisition of the right quiescence deepness!
