I'm writing this post at an inn that overlooks Lake Cayuga. It's an overcast fall morning, forty-seven degrees, nice and crisp. My wife and I are on an early anniversary trip up in the Finger Lakes. Our son is housesitting back home for us. He enjoys having the place to himself and is having some friends over for a Halloween party this evening.

I designed the wraparound cover for the paperback version of Risen In Flame, the first book in my Cart the Soulless fantasy series. Proofs arrived last week from the printer and everything looks good (also did a hardcover version). I'll be launching this as a Kickstarter fairly soon. I also did two character drawings (of which I'll be offering prints on a reward tier for the Kickstarter).

"Cart The Soulless awoke in darkness." So my first fantasy novel begins. I've had ideas for a fantasy series kicking around in my brain for years. I grew up reading and watching fantasy, horror, and science fiction. The idea of a badass warrior resurrected by a god kept coming to me. Thus, Cart the Soulless was born. The first draft for Risen In Flame is done, and I'm about halfway through edits.

I'm at the 63,000-word mark for Risen In Flame, my first fantasy novel and also the first in either a trilogy or duology. Haven't decided if it will be two or three books yet. Sometimes the story dictates how long it will be. When I was writing The Project Artemis series, I thought I'd be done with three books, but there was one more story to tell.
