Consider a programmer looking at code they themselves wrote a year ago, now having to identify and fix a bug. They have to rebuild the mental model of what is going on, which is easier if they have already had a mental model of what is going on.

The most likely case is you are infected but not infectious-the tests measure when you have enough covid to infect others. With vaccination pre-warning your body the immune systems starts a fuss very early so a lot of people won't have enough covid to test positive until day 4 or 5
