Want to mention that circumstances brought me to two different malls in the past week. BOTH had signs forbidding face masks, what were pictured were mostly the kind that look like ski masks that just expose the eyes.

Didn't leave the house today except to go to the garage & cycle laundry, feed the kitties in the yard. Have not put on shoes, although I did put on face, do hair, and sort of put on clothes (they are warm, soft & comfy.) Neighbor was blasting hate radio earlier, won't repeat what it said, but YIKES!

I just discovered there was a short-lived 2002 remake of the 1960's classic tv show, "Family Affair," featuring TIM CURRY as stuffy, snobbish, relentlessly proper butler Mr. French. And like Mr. French, I am rather horrified. Yet also I am compelled to watch this possible disaster.

I cleaned up the odd little nook in our house (it used to be a phone nook, from back in the bakelite phone days) where my Authority & Elijah Snow action figures, an antique coin holder, a Cthulhi plushie & 2 small Japanese good luck cats live.

We just watched a movie that was *so* bad, not even fun bad, simply very not good. The idea had potential, but everything about it was awful. We almost opted out a few minutes in but kept saying "Oh but look, something's about to happen." But once it was done we just thought that's 82 minutes gone.

Oh, and I planted a sad little potato that had sprouted, unknown and abandoned, behind the counter. I put it in a nice little pot, so now it has a safe comfy soil home. I named it "Tate."

Much got done today, mainly boring household tasks. What I didn't do was transfer items into the gorgeous new bag Io gifted me from the old bag that the cats destroyed. Have decided I will not go anywhere that requires me to carry a bag until I accomplish this small, yet somehow daunting task.

We went on a long walk today as there was a break in the rain and a little warmer. And I swear, the nearby stray cat population seems to have doubled since our last walk a few days ago. So cute, so in need of responsible people looking after them.

Starting the year by repinking my hair. Gonna do some tasks around the house, make a late breakfast with Io, hang out with the kitties, read, drink tea, watch something. Starting healthy with hopes that will set the standard for the rest of the year! Health, stability, community. Yep yep.

Staying in tonight, trying to find a good movie to watch together.

I accomplished many things today post my good medical report. Tasks I'd put off, like cleaning the cats' horrible corner (they are SO messy!) and raking the leaves prior to the coming deluge of storms, placed & picked up grocery order & meds, planted sad potato.
Now: tulsi rose tea & videos!

At last some good news! Lab tests this morning showed infections gone, and cells looking back to normal (save for one hold out cell, which we will eradicate with estrodial!) So much relief!

Long SF day - got a perfect haircut, and saw a bunch of kitties, picked up sandwiches for dinner. Sleep now b/c doctor appointment early, in which I find out if the many, many antibiotics over the past month resolved the self-generated infections in my delicate system. Whee.

I really, really hope everyone posting about having a cold or the flu feels better soon, but I really, really, REALLY hope you're all testing for Covid. Even if it wouldn't change how you treat yourself, it could make a difference in how dangerous you are to others. Please test & isolate if needed!

Of all the nightmare dystopian futures depicted in movies, did anyone ever expect it would turn out to be Cherry 2000?
December 29, 2025 at 12:20 AM
Last night we watched Honey Don't, not being sure what to expect, but a combination of noir, woman detective, & Aubrey Plaza made it intriguing. Of the 3 of us who watched it, I think I liked it best. It *looked* like 1979-81, but the dialogue was snappy, the herrings very red, the plot twisty.

I don't know if I am "smart," although I suppose it depends on one's definition. But two of the smartest books, in terms of insight, world-building, story, character & commentary are The Martian Contingency by Mary Robinette Kowal, & Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz. I enjoyed both greatly!
Hey smart people QT this with the best book you read this year

In other disturbing news, my mom's bank has not received the annual required paperwork, which I sent over a week ago. I stupidly used their prepaid envelop rather than registered mail. I'd been sending it registered for years, since the last time I didn't it was lost. Lost Sensitive Documents, argh!

two horrible, vivid nghtmares last night. The first, a hair stylist that is not mine IRL got furious with me halfway through my haircut for giving very specific instructions for what I wanted, stopped cutting my hair, and kidnapped me and drove me all around some unrecognizable city.
The second was

Took my first oregano oil capsule on the basis that it will help boost my sorely deficient immune system. We'll see how it goes. I was warned of oregano burps.

Delighted that my fave vegan restaurant in SF will be open on Christmas, as they usually are, but that they have added singapore curry noodles to their menu! As I will be in SF that day seeing cats, I now know what I will have for Christmas dinner. Yum! I am so grateful for everyone there!

Here's a great idea! My sister, also a cat lady, wants a gift certificate for her veterinary hospital, as she is always having to take one of her brood there. It'll help out.
So it might be a present to consider for any folks you know who have pets and struggle with their expenses. Any break helps.

Introduced a friend who is ailing and wanted to watch a DC animation to Justice League: The New Frontier. They enjoyed it, and hopefully felt a little better after. I enjoyed it, and was oddly moved by how hopeful it is at the end.
