Minneapolis is in fact a wonderful, creative, and dynamic place to live, with a deep wellspring of people willing to work hard to make it even better.

One of my first experiences covering Cathy Engelbert as WNBA commissioner was when she named gun violence as the main reason why the league refused to open up a Chance the Rapper concert to the public during All-Star weekend in Chicago. Didn’t get much buzz at the time but always stuck with me.

So while I was disappointed with their execution during this Mercury series, and angered + disheartened by the way officiating influenced the outcome (perhaps even put it in doubt) these past 2 seasons, I salute the joy of watching this overachieving outfit, epitomized by its star--and the next 7.
