This whole section really.
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

It was an elegant study- interesting work

Would one not antipate differences depending on system thus for vision space may be more important but say pain one might predict time??

They made a nice job of it and it is well reasoned- although part of me thinks you could have knocked out the answer in the pub before you got half way through first pint

Image description: A white and green poster for the FND Ireland Conference speakers.

The text reads: "Meet Our Speakers: Dr. Caoimhe McLoughlin, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist
Dr McLoughlin trained in Ireland in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, the branch of medicine that deals with conditions at the interface of body and mind. She was awarded a European Fellowship with the ETUDE program for Functional Disorders, which she recently completed in Edinburgh, under the supervision of Professors Jon Stone and Alan Carson. Her topic of study was Stigma in Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

FND Ireland Conference 2025
Date: Saturday 18th October, Location: Maldron Hotel Tallaght, Dublin."

There is a headshot photo of Dr. McLoughlin in the top left of the poster. She is a person with dark hair and is wearing a yellow cardigan and black top.
There is a green and orange graphic of a person's silhouette in the bottom right and a QR code to book tickets to the conference in bottom left

It’s not “dismissing” someone to give them a diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder.

Like all other conditions, it’s either

1. A correct dx for that person, or
2. not.

When you say “dismissing as FND,” you reveal that you think there’s a hierarchy of disorders, some more legit than others

“We must make the correct diagnoses, & stop dismissing patients with IACCs as having ‘nothing’ or Functional Neurological Disorder. This dismissal can no longer be tolerated.” –Dr. Brayden Yellman, @medscape.com buff.ly/3DxvK9H

Graphic with a blue gradient background. Large quote text reads: 'We must make the correct diagnoses, rather than telling patients they ‘don’t have anything’ or labeling them with ‘functional neurological disorder.’ This type of dismissal can no longer be tolerated.' – Brayden Yellman, MD. Below, text says: 'Medscape article: Where Is the Medical Home for Post-infectious Illness?' At the bottom, text reads: 'Read full article: https://bit.ly/47Mndzb

Is it not the case that both propositions are extremes- lesion based studies clearly show some localisation but adaptations shows widespread networks- so my bet is schrodingers- you’re both simultaneously right and wrong

Absolutely- also although we live in an era of biomarkers and imaging remember the single most useful investigation in dementia is speaking to s family member

There are multiple levels of assumptions and calculations and dats fitting- none pre registered through this analysis

Westminster keeps misdiagnosing why voters turn to Farage. Mimicry isn’t cure - it feeds decline. The real remedy is education, a better standard of living, and hope. Brexit sped up UK’s decline and left voters searching for easy targets to blame, aided by Reform/Tories/Labour.

It is slightly disappointing the tendancy in psychanalysis to a ‘creationist’ approach with all ideas starting with Freud but the basic principles of object relations theory has so much to offer to all medicsl encounter not just FND

This is a really excellent article on the intersecting histories of FND and psychoanalysis - and the damage still ongoing.

FND defies simple explanations and reductionism

Thank you @jonstoneneuro.bsky.social for writing (and the kind mention) and @fndireland.bsky.social for sharing!
