Music was blaring, lights strobing, bodies gyrating. There was glitter everywhere. Welcome to Daybreaker, an early morning dance movement based in 33 cities around the world, where people come to “sweat, dance and connect with ourselves and each other”. It is also how I ended up in a nightclub at seven in the morning, sober and alone, approaching strangers to ask if they were having a good time.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky. My editor at the time had initially (and a little too cheerily, I felt) suggested I go walking with wolves somewhere in the Lake District. Back in 2019, Daybreaker was a noisy example of what seemed like a striking shift in our consumption habits. The so-called “experience economy” was booming then and — following the Covid-19 interruption — has come back with a vengeance

It is rightfully an aggravated public order offence to burn a religious text in public where it's motivated by hate toward a religious or ethnic group, especially when it's deliberately within hearing or sight of the group they're targeting.

And that's exactly why Hamit Coskun was charged & fined.

The rules apply to any non-EU citizens not covered by free movement law, not just British citizens. All these possible penalties for overstay already exist.

Brexity folks are allowed to worship British border controls; but the EU is not supposed to enforce theirs against Brits.

I support ID cards. I use one in the EU, and it's a huge help. Especially when travelling, as it can be used as a passport throughout the EEA and elsewhere. But by linking ID cards to anti-foreigner xenophobia, Blue Labour has scored another own-goal and destroyed the opportunity to introduce them.

There are arguments against nationalising certain industries. The idea that the state can always do better is for the birds.

But when it comes to the water industry, we KNOW they're a bunch of greedy polluting sharks. So why the government haven't stepped in to snaffle it up is a real puzzle.

I was quite surprised, given the amount of negative press that would have you believe that this government is the worst we’ve had yet.

2 were delivered in 5 years.
Under the current Labour Govt, elected in 2024, of 83 Manifesto Pledges, 57 are delivered (18), on track (19), or in process (20).
