Don't let the craziness with the Supreme Court distract from the big immigration story; people from 19 different countries, including Haiti, Venezuela, and Cuba, are currently trapped in an immigration limbo, with their citizenship and green card applications (among others) put indefinitely on hold.

Maura Healey still fails to grasp that dismantling ICE is the moderate position. Complete and utter condemnation of ICE is the only acceptable position for a Democrat in Massachusetts.

Healey responded: "It's just funny, because I was a prosecutor and Attorney General, I put away a lot of bad guys, including people who are here unlawfully. Put them away for, you know, running drug cartels and gun cartels and the like. Massachusetts is not a sanctuary city. Just for information to folks. I continue to work with state, local and federal law enforcement when it comes to getting bad guys off the streets. Always done that always will. And in terms of ICE, you know, we have an agreement when people are getting out of jail, prison here in Massachusetts and they are here unlawfully, notice goes to ICE. We have a regular working relationship with ICE. ... We have seen instances where the Trump administration is hurting a lot of people, taking a lot of people who aren't criminals off the streets, ripping them away from neighbors, their kids, work places, people who have been living here, working here, paying taxes for years.

it has never been clearer that undocumentedness is the outcome of processes of ILLEGALIZATION. it's not something a person does, it's something the state does to a person. The state is doing this to hundreds of thousands overnight, so it's especially shocking, but it's part of broader illegalization

🚨NEW: The Trump admin moves to terminate Temporary Protected Status for HALF A MILLION Haitians, claiming despite all reality that Haiti is a safe country to return to — even though large portions of the country are ruled by vicious gangs and civil governance has collapsed.
DHS Terminates Haiti TPS, Encourages Haitians to Obtain Lawful Status Release Date: June 27, 2025 WASHINGTON – Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem today announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. The TPS designation for the country expires on Aug. 3, 2025, and the termination will be effective on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. At least 60 days before a TPS designation expires, the Secretary, after consultation with appropriate U.S. government agencies, is required to review the conditions in a country designated for TPS to determine whether the conditions supporting the designation continue to be met, and if so, how long to extend the designation. “This decision restores integrity in our immigration system and ensures that Temporary Protective Status is actually temporary,” said a DHS spokesperson. “The environmental situation in Haiti has improved enough that it is safe for Haitian citizens to return home. We encourage these individuals to take advantage of the Department’s resources in returning to Haiti, which can be arranged through the CBP Home app. Haitian nationals may pursue lawful status through other immigration benefit requests, if eligible.” After conferring with interagency partners, Secretary Noem determined that conditions in Haiti no longer meet the TPS statutory requirements. The Secretary’s decision was based on a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services review of the conditions in Haiti and in consultation with the Department of State. The Secretary determined that, overall, country conditions have improved to the point where Haitians can return home in safety. She further determined that permitting Haitian nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is contrary to the national interest of the United States. Haitian nationals returning home are encouraged to use the U.S. Customs and Border Protection CBP Home app to report their departure from the United States.

ICE is detaining people in torturous conditions in a two-story office building in #Burlington, Mass.

The detainees are barely being fed, can't wash their hands, and are in such confined spaces that they can't all lie down at once.

Peredo Carroll said her client spent a couple days in a small holding cell by herself — an 8-foot-by-10-foot space with nothing but a toilet. Eventually, two other women were moved into the room. The space was so small that all three of them couldn't lie down at the same time, Peredo Carroll said. "So two of them could lie down while one was leaning up against the toilet," she said. Eventually, all three women were moved to a larger holding cell with about a dozen other women. Once again, there were no beds, or a sink with soap for handwashing, and the women slept on the floor. There was one toilet in the center of the room and "the women used the aluminum blanket to cover each other as they used the toilet so they could have a little bit of privacy," Peredo Carroll wrote in her affidavit. Throughout her stay in Burlington, Peredo Carroll said her client received three small meals per day: a small cup of oatmeal in the morning, a couple spoonfuls of pasta for lunch and some sort of rice dish for dinner that she likened to "dog food." A small bottle of water came with each meal. Sherman-Stokes also said her client in the Burlington facility was "not being fed appropriately." After 18 hours in ICE custody, she’d had a small cup of oatmeal and an apple, she said.

An incredibly devastating decision which simply ignores the human costs and blesses the Trump admin's stripping of status of hundreds of thousands of people who entered the country legally — which the explicit stated goal of rapidly deporting those people without a court hearing.

ICE convinced a woman she was being arrested and then threatened to take her baby into custody unless a relative showed up to take her.

It was all a ruse to get her mother to leave her house.

People just learning of Worcester from ICE news should understand that the 2nd largest city New England is also a refugee resettlement community. My block is made up of people from all over the world. By design. And while the WPD response was horrific, our community showed up and will continue to.

ICE went into the database where foreign students are tracked and deleted the record of at least 1,700 or more people because they had some minor interaction with law enforcement — speeding tickets, fishing citations, and other minor things.

Judges are ruling that was illegal.
