Axing the Iain Anderson show isn’t “schedule refresh.” It’s a loss to Scottish culture. Iain’s programme has been a place of warmth, discovery and musical storytelling for decades. Please consider signing the petition to save the show.

It gets dark early now and the country is raked by rain, so if you're the protagonist in an M John Harrison novel now is the right time of year to take a slow train to an unfamiliar town to check on an old friend who hasn't been doing so well

Fascinated to know whar this ‘similar balancing’ programme would have covered. Has anyone asked Prescott?
Michael Prescott was ‘“shocked” that after an hour-long Panorama documentary dealing with Trump and the January 6 insurgency, there was no “similar, balancing” programme about Kamala Harris.’

More read about the machinations between the BBC resignations, the more worrying it becomes
The departure of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness means the BBC is leaderless when it needs leadership more than ever. Where are the people at the head of the BBC standing up for it?

Ok but Christian Calgie is the Express political editor. He's a journalist. And in his frame, he's "got them" to commit to this. I mean, that's weird, isn't it? Isn't that a strange thing for a journalist to say?
This from X is a striking example of what I argue in today’s column. Reform and the Tories are out here gleefully saying disabled people on Motability should be forced to drive a 3-wheeler, like a scarlet letter. The stigma is not an accident - it’s the design.

Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin, “It drives me mad seeing adverts full of black people, full of Asian people, full of anything other than white". She goes on to say there are now more or less no white people represented on British television anymore.

The Conservatives have drafted the legislation.

ANY one of the conditions being met leads to ILR being revoked.

If annual income falls below £38,700 for six months (for any reason at all)

The Secretary of State would also have the powers add whatever further conditions they want.
