Suspension of accts from Bluesky has called into question the mission and very existence of Blacksky. "If bsky can still suspend you, what's the point?"

For one usually Bluesky doesn't just suspend you. They delete all of your data AND suspend you. Moving to Blacksky prevents that. 4/11

Using AJ Link as an example, his current situation is that Bluesky, the Barnes & Nobles of atproto have banned him from their stores and essentially blackballed him from the publishing industry.

Fortunately for AJ Link, we've kept all his manuscripts safe and sound right where he left them. 3/11

through deft negotiations with a chatbot, i managed to get my internet service suspended early at my current place and also somehow delayed the start of internet service at my new place

i will celebrate this tactical retreat from the internet by banging my head on my desk for a bit and then packing

if anyone remembers that discourse about college faculty leaving the US, i would be grateful for the link. i tried some of the keywords that felt reasonable and couldn't find it

out-of-state students bring considerably more revenue into public universities. in 2012 i paid $2k/year for community college (would be 6k for int'l students), then transferred to UC Irvine. at the time i paid 14k for tuition. out-of-state students paid 37k

today the numbers are more like 18 and 53

someone asked a while ago about whether faculty would be moving out of the US and i think i replied that such moves take considerable time even if calls for jobs exist; but i think it's a useful follow-up to that conversation to say that significant declines in enrollment precipitate other stuff

of course, i'm always saying that too many users on social media are made to feel shame for the things they say

there is simply TOO MUCH feedback for saying the most unbelievable, obscene things people's creative minds can think of while deprived of face-to-face contact with people. i am very smart

the wise admins of bluesky have decided that creating a moderation list of AI slop posters is a no no

Hi there,
Your Bluesky account
(@carrion.bsky.social) has created a list called "Al Slop Posters" that may violate our Community Guidelines. We've temporarily hidden this list from other users because it contains one or more of these issues.
- Harmful language such as insults or slurs
- Unverified claims
- Appears intended to shame or abuse users

out of curiosity, does it take some time for an edit to propagate or something? or should it be instant?

this is a bit of a side point but i am really interested in how many of these AI University endeavours double as branding campaigns, in attaching institutional emblems to new shiny surfaces (see, from umich, Maizey, UM-GPT...)

one of the really lasting thoughts that has kept bugging me all day (even as i wrote other things) was that bluesky is conspicuously allergic to moderation of certain people, under certain circumstances, for seemingly really deeply-held principles; but they will lunge across a table to suspend link.
ali-alkhatib.com
at least linda never would've done this shit. can't believe i miss when she was ceo of this place, posting about how she hated mondays or whatever she did

people took an interest in lowtax because understanding his capricious idiosyncratic whims was necessary to know what lines they needed to be on one side of or another - at least as far as was visible to their obnoxious, thin-skinned, untenably retaliatory admin - from one day to the next, ykwim?

like guys i understand that you're frustrated that people are wildly speculating about this situation, but you need to take some ownership for the fact that you created this situation and refuse to be transparent (after years of luring users to rely on this dumb ass website) so PEOPLE MUST SPECULAtE

it's at least worth saying that link got no email or anything from bluesky for like at least a day IIRC, and the mechanisms and processes around this particular suspension were exceptional enough that they warrant some discussion/comm

so narrativizing this as jockeying for attention is pretty wild!

A lot of people think tweeting vague death threats at the CEO is a path to success on here, huh?

Death threats are bad, and when you send death threats to the CEO a ban makes sense!
People need to be more circumspect before just simply believing what random Bluesky users are saying about the admins - there's a lot of lying people are doing to jockey for attention.
