This whole obsession with "too many people going to uni" is such a classic example of the parochialism of UK policymaking. No one bothers to ask why the % here is lower than in most other developed countries or whether that might be relevant.

You're one step ahead of me David - I'm writing a paper for the same conference and have lots of ideas, but currently 0 words. I am, however, currently re-reading your 2018 Proximity, Pain and State Punishment paper, and finding it very useful, so thank you!

This letter is already at over 1000 signatures, showing the level of support in UK academia for these students - and hopefully increasing pressure on the Home Office and FCDO. Still open to sign.

If you were born between 1970-1990 you may not have full MMR protection, even if you had parents who took you for all your jabs. The NHS will give you a free booster. With cases surging, this is a great way to protect yourself & your community. I’m getting mine tomorrow www.nhs.uk/vaccinations...

Big employability has convinced a generation of decision makers/students that there’s a series of bitesize specific #lifehacks inherent in degree level study that they’ve added. But it’s always been about the journey of gaining competence/mastery of a subject and the things you develop along the way

Decades of mechanistic talk about university degrees as if they were bundles of 'skills' and 'prep' are about to be proved completely wrong (obviously). Want to get a real boost? Do History or English.

🔴NEW🔴 Back in February, an expert in sexual violence got in touch with me concerned about a start-up promising to "end rape" on campus.

What's the problem? Who doesn't want to end rape?

I started to investigate. Here's what I found

Enough: Start-up targeting rape survivors at UK universities
Launching in Bristol, Enough vowed to be the ‘breathalyser of rape’. But can fem tech really ‘deter’ sexual violence?

There must be a reason, but I would love to be able to read reviews from previous tenants. Always feels odd I can read the views of thousands of people before I decide what restaurant to eat at, but I have to just hope for the best before I decide who to give more than £1000 a month to

*Another* heatwave arrives this week and it could be the most intense yet. But prisons are ill-prepared to protect prisoners & staff from environmental harm.

✍️ A new paper examines indoor environmental conditions across multiple prisons

❌ It’s not good.
