It’s funny because if you asked “the government has been snatching people off the street, kidnapping them, stalling lawyers who represent them, renditioning them to foreign countries, and generally terrorizing innocent people; what do you do?” The answer would sound like rioting in the streets

One of the reasons I think “defund the police” is a great slogan is that you get to repeatedly tell people that studies show that police don’t actually solve murders, and in fact one-third of stranger-murders are committed by police.

Finished this late last night - just in time for book club tomorrow evening. It’s incredibly well researched and well written. I, like most people my age, distinctly remember watching this event unfold with my classmates. As an adult, I’m heartbroken to read the backstory.

Our UT legislature is all about retaliation. Many elected individuals are corrupt and cruel- finding ways to ignore constituents, disenfranchise voters, and gerrymander voting maps.
“The prevailing trend is clear: Utah’s politicians are working harder to shield themselves from public oversight than they are to serve the public,” write Utah Sierra Club’s Legislative Committee co-chairs Frances Benfell and Chris Shapard in an op-ed.
Voices: The Utah Legislature won a ‘Black Hole’ award. We saw firsthand how well-deserved it is.
