Hallmark of Trump’s 2nd term: undoing his few good moves from the 1st. First undermining the success of Operation Warp Speed, now he’s targeting GEFTA—the law guaranteeing back pay for furloughed workers. Pure shutdown panic politics. Unions will fight it, but the stress is the point.

Hegseth claimed we need to “return to the male standard” in combat jobs, but there has never been a separate male and female standard. When women entered combat roles, one standard was set, and we’ve been meeting it ever since. You can either do the job or you can’t. Period.

About 10K of 13K DOL employees are furloughed right now. Over 400 staff are working without pay to handle urgent workplace safety & health emergencies. Economic data reporting from BLS is on hold. Staff who administer workers' comp claims are funded separately, so they will continue working.
