Hey folks!

I’m Aaron. I’m mostly known as a podcast writer, producer, and narrator who makes things at the intersection of the spooky and the historical.

I’ve been making my award-winning podcast LORE for nearly a decade (300+ eps), so check it out (in bio) if you love folklore and weird history.
It’s not surprising that cruelty and incompetence are unpopular. It’s just shocking that it’s taken so long for some people to stand up to it.

Half of all writing in the world is trying to think of a synonym for a word you just used in the previous sentence.

Season 2 of #Lore premiered seven years ago today! Based on the award-winning Lore podcast, the show dives into the origins to some of our deepest fears. Both seasons are now streaming on Amazon Prime.

After a big delay due to 10 days of bad vertigo and then a lot of catching up on work stuff, I’m now 1/3 done with this novel (ya fantasy).

That’s it. That’s the post. Carry on.
Just popping in to say that, yes I am still alive, and no, I wasn’t raptured. I’ve used the last two weeks to start writing my first novel in over a decade, and am already 25% done.

I’m enjoying the clarity that comes with fewer social media interruptions, so for now I think I’ll stick with it.
I think I’ll be taking a break for a while. Sorry folks. I’m just not built for *waves hands erratically* all of this. If creativity is a fire, social media is a big ol’ bucket of cold water.

Friends who still care to say hello know how to reach me. Cheers.

Oh Apple, you sweet summer child…

Something wicked this way comes…

(I’ll reveal the full, gorgeous cover when I have permission.)

First social gathering in a very long time means I’m feeling the desire to blend into the background and hide.

Introverts unite (but at a distance, and quietly)!!

I took a walk in the woods today. Pretty chuffed with these photos.

Does he think Bluesky is some sort of Congressional ChatGPT, where you type in requests and they just magically appear?
Fire RFK Jr. now.

“Senator shocked to discover RFK Jr. is exactly who he claimed to be prior to his confirmation.”

A few more shots from yesterday’s outing to see the site of Mercy Brown’s “vampire” exhumation ritual in 1892.

Social media in a nutshell…

Me: here’s a photo of my visit to a special place!

Random person: here’s a reply with an uninvited lecture on a topic that’s ever so slightly tangentially related to your post!

Finally, more than 10 years after I first told her story on Lore, I paid a visit to the grave of Mercy Brown.

There’s literally nothing Christian about hate. The biblical mandate is to heal the sick, not blame them. To welcome and care for the immigrant, not arrest them. To support those without a safety net, not abandon them.

MAGA voters claiming to be “Christian” are anything but.

I didn't understand why the Cracker Barrel thing is woke. It's so dumb.

Then remembered that Trump is all over the Epstein files and the entire Republican party, and all of their pundits, are actively covering it up.

Anyway, now I get it.

I really hope Jack White’s example is forcing a lot of artists and creators to wrestle with the choice between preserving their audience numbers through silence or using their platform to stand up for what’s right.

Havoc Town will be a full season of 12 episodes. Hopefully putting the finale somewhere right around Halloween 🎃
This “show for my ears” is incredible, make sure you listen with headphones, so much extra details.
My brain has been running amuck since Thursday, trying to guess where some of the plot lines are going…
@amahnke.bsky.social please tell me there will be more than the three episodes listed! Ta

I’m retiring from writing to open an Irish pub that uses broken lawn furniture for all its seating. I call it: Patty O’Shit.

History isn’t a warm banket designed to make you feel safe and comfortable. It’s a cold rainstorm that should drive you to learn how to avoid getting wet the next time.

The Venn diagram of people who (1) can’t tell the different between social programs and communism, (2) think we talk too much about how evil slavery was, and (3) willingly voted for a racist felon is a perfect circle.
