I love it when academics publish papers that are like, "I checked and I'm still right"
www.jstor.org/stable/24393...
In this paper I review research since 2000 and conclude
that it has vindicated this view

We’re getting rid of leaf blowers by eating 50 leaves a day each. Get out there

Listening to @ifbookspod.bsky.social re/ Klein on the Kirk shooting and in addition to all the things they talk about it's also so obvious that pundits were consuming politics as a TV show and they just got the memo the TV can shoot them.

I’m starting to worry that part of the appeal of ”AI agents” to some is that it feels like working with people but it’s got none of the friction that real people have, and that this is kind of appealing to a certain type of self-isolating computer fan.

My new analysis is just: to the extent that anyone is meaningfully in charge of anything, they’re all playing the world like it’s Dishonored on high chaos.

I had the same reaction looking at the index funds that constitute most of my pensions savings and realising it’s NVIDIA, Tesla, and Meta.

This is one of those cases where someone is using as many leftist signifiers they can as a disingenuous bludgeon to give their own grievances the thinnest gossamer layer of victimhood.
It's very similar to how the right believes that minority groups are actually the privileged ones (now), etc.

I don't think it's transphobic to say an excel spreadsheet doesn't have a soul
Lynn Cole" "Okay, but substantively, they weren't wrong. The sorry state of discussion around AI by "traditionalists" on this app is repulsive. The ongoing transphobia, racism, classism, and dismissive gatekeeping is flatly anti-human. Has been since the beginning. I'm glad people are starting to call it out"

The thing computers did was enabling financialisation and the spacial fix, undermining labour and allowing massive global inequality.

Which is another shell game.

The situation is even worse. *Computers* didn’t produce growth.

IT’S ALL
BUBBLES

SINCE THE ’70’s!

"The main reason AI is regarded as a magic fix for so many different threats is that it is expected to deliver a significant boost to productivity growth, especially in the US."

There is no productivity boost. This whole thing is one big shell game.

"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."

This feels a lot like having people you know and respect being replaced by pod people. Saying insane shit. Dropping things they used to care about.

One of the things that make living the AI bubble so scary is you can see individual people take exactly the position that aligns with their material interest.

Working at a tech company that benefits from the bubble? AI is the best thing since sliced bread.

it remains really funny that this site was spun up to be a crypto/rationalist platform and then old time weird twitter people and others started moving over here in spring 2023 and ever since management has been mad they're successful but not in the way they wanted
