I think that the longstanding trauma of this moment is going to be that many people in their 20-30s rn in not-quite-elite circles are going to be intensely small c conservative for a long time and have something of a hair-trigger for anything that smells of populism for the rest of their days

I think it’s important to keep expectations low-ish. Based on 2024 results and NJ/VA estimation factor (~D+9 since 2024) I’d say the benchmark for a good night for Dems is <R+8 (which would be beating Cook PVI by 2 points or more)

one thing that democrats are really quite good at is correcting and "fixing" the mistakes of their previous bite at the apple. It goes as far back as Clinton correcting for the legislative failures of Carter!
I find the 'the Democrats won't do anything' doomer line annoying, because the Democrats will be who you make them - look how much the GOP changed over the past decade!

Gutting US counterterrorism and federal law enforcement capacity was a bad idea.
Sorry to get so partisan. I know the president wants to see more political violence in the US, and thinks it's important for federal forces to prioritize crackdowns on nonviolent, noncriminal migrants. I just disagree.

Get in, we’re making a bunch of movies about Patriotic American Liberalism from the Civil War to Reconstruction to WWII (add some First Gulf War in there for good measure—throw a bone to HW). Maybe a Lyndon “Based” Johnson favorable biopic treatment while we’re at it.
