Sometimes it’s desperation, sometimes it’s capitalizing on opportunity. But there are folks who have become *primarily* invested in content creation AS A MEANS TO MARKET THEIR ROLES and only interact with others to that end.

At a certain point, social media became such that content creators, performers, and artists all found themselves held hostage by a herd mentality that will happily boost their work one day and then rip them to shreds the next over something so trivial or immaterial.
