Good morning! AI is being force-fed to you by a handful of billionaires who will lose a bunch of money if they fail to convince you that you need it. You do not need it 🫶

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

When writing/editing the code for my custom SVGs directly in the editor, I sometimes get these unintentionally pretty outputs mid-process.

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Working on my project about the Norwegian city Bergen; a history/geography project which involves creative data vis. Haven't written D3 code in ages, but the test vis came out as planned/hoped. So fun to write code again! (No AI)

I kid you not, my work knows that I do drawing on the side and someone in the office told me AI could save me time and my response was "but I like drawing" and it broke them. They didn't know how to answer, they just couldn't comprehend that people make art because they like making art.

Another excellent piece by Nicholas!
New: I recreated Tomas Wright’s 1742 astronomical treatise, Clavis Cælestis, and its accompanying sheets titled A Synopsis of the Universe. New posters are available in antique style and modern colors.

A trick for fitting world maps on phones:

Stack two azimuthal equal-area projections, clipped at 90° longitude, each one rotated 180° from the other.

The bottom map covers the top's Antarctica, which reduces the total height and looks nice.

As seen in www.nytimes.com/2025/04/25/c...

Inner Circle - Oil on Wood.
As we age, our circle shrinks—odd, since we know more. Friends, acquaintances, and family drift away, leaving us seeking like-minded connections. We no longer have the energy for uninteresting things. Colors and contrasts fade, but in return, we find peace #painting #art
