years ago I was in DC and bought a sixer of “something local” and my MIL loved the name so now she has this particular beer ready and waiting anytime we show up because it’s obviously my favorite beer ever. Merry Christmas to All.

went to north myrtle beach this weekend to see Zakk Wylde. He was everything I thought he would be (heavy, insane solos, owned the stage) but crowd was kind of awful. bunch of heavily intoxicated men acting like absolute jerks.

You read the Bible, Charlie Brown? There’s this passage I got memorized…
We all float down here, Charlie Brown
Second prize is a set of steak knives, Charlie Brown

I know it’s routine to say “kids today can’t read” but the president and his toadies threw a Great Gatsby themed party the night they cut benefits to forty million people and I don’t know how you could miss the point of the book more.

the government should step in and force a universal cook temp for all oven baked snacks. chicken nuggets. mozz sticks. french fries. breaded mushrooms. One temperature. make it happen @fda.gov

THIS IS ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTAND AND APPLIES TO MOVIES
the protagonist isn't always the hero. they are just the person the book is about. sometimes authors write books about people who are bad and it does not mean that the author is bad
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Fits perfectly into the coalescence between MAHA and the ‘Alpha Male‘ Universe - blame women.
Looking at RFK's recent moves, including an attack on the hepatitis B vaccine and on painkillers for pregnant women.

The common theme: That all children's health problems are due to "bad" mothers.

This isn't about making kids healthy. It's misogyny.

RFK Jr's war on vaccines is about shaming women, not helping kids
The MAHA movement regards all childhood ailments as a sign that moms are failing

I remember my dad taking me to tower records the day the division bell was released. there was excitement in the store that I was in awe of. He immediately went into his car (late 80’s toranado) and listened to the first side as we just drove the streets of Philly.
What is Dad playing?

An executive seizing control of the capital city’s law enforcement when they are underwater in popular support seems bad to me.

Red Hot Chili Peppers/Unlimited Love

Not my hottest music take, but a take is that John is the most important member. What his energy and artistry bring to the sound is on full display. An explosion of tones of sound of emotion.

Sturgill Simpson/Cuttin Grass Vol. 1

Talk about a departure. COVID game Sturgill time to record the album he had talked about making, and it’s hard to pick which come across better (or the more recent jammy/groove versions). A depth of talent on full display.

Sturgill Simpson/Sound & Fury

A theme with my favorite artists is risk. The risk to take a chance or indulge a passion/influence. Great example here. Sturgill is still changing and indulging, but this was the first and most intense of these changes.

Lorde/Pure Heroine

Heard the single and enjoyed it, then heard an interview with Bowie where he described listening to the album as “listening to the future”. Was transfixed the first playthrough. One of the great debuts of the quarter century.

Another fifty minutes of thunder from Homme and the various incarnations of this group. Deeply personal, this one was an immediate love for me.

Shovels and Rope/O Be Joyful

The vocal harmonies from this band are up there with John and Paul. Heard this record pretty soon after moving to Charleston and fell in love.

Motörhead/Better Motörhead Than Dead

Another live album! Saw Motörhead for the first (only) time on this tour, the 30th anniversary. Went solo, and was blown away. raw power, intensity, and presence always stuck with me, as did the memory of being deaf for hours.
