So much election debate can be summed up as 1) “too many Americans think It Can’t Happen Here” or 2) “too many Americans WANT it to happen here”

Shout out to @cityofsantamonica.bsky.social for closing up a mysterious "high voltage street lighting" cover with dangerous protruding wires after I contacted #311! Thank you for getting on that quickly!

I'm sure if a Democratic elected official mandated that a left-wing organization had to be given access to all of a state's public schools, they would be completely fine with it and would never ever call it "grooming" or "indoctrination" or anything.

I talked about rising electricity bills & the need for clean electrification on #WITHpod with @chrislhayes.bsky.social. AI & data centers are spiking electricity demand, & the Administration is restricting the building of renewable energy. Prices are going up. Watch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f653...

The federal government has censored the work of dozens of scientists, including work by my lab, on the impacts of climate change on Acadia National Park. Signs have been removed from Cadillac and Great Meadow. They’re also removing signs about the Wabanaki’s sacred connections to Cadillac.

I cannot emphasize this enough:

The regime has overextended itself. It is vulnerable to protest and dissent.

They have not consolidated power and we are entirely capable of keeping them from doing so.

Doomers are not realists.

After Stephen Miller and others turned a memorial service into a celebration of their own hate, after we showed our power to make Disney back down from canceling Kimmel, let's remind MAGA (again) that CA will Hold the Line for our people and our state.

HOT TIP!! Fascism survival strategy: read (or listen to!) books about fighting Nazis! This week I’ve enjoyed Double Cross, by Ben MacIntyre, and am now onto A Woman of No Importance, by Sonia Purnell. Both checked out from my local library! 🙌

I’m kind of starting to think that any democratic uprising by the people is going to include a full-on rejection of tech and its makers. Just throwing these machines into a river and holding the designers responsible.

So, again, it's worth pointing out that one of the authors of this piece, David Keith, created and then sold the carbon removal company "Carbon Engineering" to Occidental Petroleum, who *VERY EXPLICITLY* intend to use it to expand fossil fuel extraction.........

ketanjoshi.co/2023/09/03/c...
Occidental Petroleum sure is selling something: a shitload of oil and gas. They’re the fourth biggest producer in the US, and 24th biggest in the world.

And they’re unambiguous about their plan to use carbon removal as a tool to ensure they keep selling oil and gas. Here are some choice quotes from the CEO of Occidental Petroleum, Vicki Hollub:

“We can’t stop oil today. We can’t stop oil in the next 10 to 20 to 30 years, and in fact, we don’t need to ever stop oil because it’s really about emissions, it’s not about the fuel source”
– source

“We believe that our direct capture technology is going to be the technology that helps to preserve our industry over time..this gives our industry a licence to continue to operate for the 60, 70, 80 years that I think it’s going to be very much needed”
– source

In response to a question on how Hollub responds to accusations CDR is greenwashing being used to extend the life oil:
“I would say that’s true. It’s true. Because what we need to do is: We need to extend the life of oil production, because it’s the most intensive energy source. And so we need to do it for the world. It makes the world a better place” – source

The core way this happens is by selling “net zero oil” – that’s normal oil, but with some additional claim of climate mitigation. They are already selling fossil fuels using carbon removal branding: about this time last year they announced a pre-

I feel like there should be some law against advocating for solar geoengineering if you've never advocated for the phaseout of fossil fuels.

The concept of trying to implement geoengineering solutions to #climate change is like trying to design a complicated, expensive, unreliable helmet while you're still hitting yourself in the head with a 2x4.

Many Americans think climate change will devastate future generations, the world’s poor, and nature — but far fewer believe it will harm them personally. This “it won’t happen to me” bias delays action, even as climate chaos grows in that country.

They are not aware of the energy and water use implications. I’m not always sure they know about the hallucinations or untrustworthiness.

The swift rollout and ubiquity is exactly to make it impossible to root out and normalize as quickly as possible. Same with Waymo, same with e-scooters, etc.

I’m hearing from surprising friends that they are using AI. I am floored. I don’t know how they trust it.

But it is also clear that 1) it is helping them navigate systems that are otherwise too complicated (legal compliance, medical care) and 2) they just think of it as yet another tech tool

What anti-vaxxer Levi means is they realize they can't ban COVID vaccines entirely, so they are going to devise a ridiculously limited set of circumstances in which you're allowed to get the vaccine, none of which is supported by evidence. Impeach Kennedy, impeach him now.

Very confusing what ACIP is trying to do on coronavirus vaccines www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...
Retsef Levi, the ACIP panelist who leads the coronavirus vaccine work group and has previously called for a halt to mRNA coronavirus vaccines, said the group wanted to address communicating risks and uncertainties of the shots to patients more consistently.

“We are going to focus on personalized risk-benefit analysis, and we’re going to very much stay away from the narratives or the statements about safe and effective,” said Levi, a professor of operations management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “We don’t believe that these are appropriate or scientific language to talk about the issues related to vaccination.”
