Mayo County Council is proposing a project branded as a "walking and cycling amenity" and "traffic calming" project in the Belmullet area, but the project mainly includes resurfacing, road signs and road markings. The project, named Blacksod Bay Loop Phase 1, Binghamstown - Cross Lake, is currently undergoing public consultation until August 1st. It includes new rural shared road signs, branded as "Quiet Road" signs.

Basically forest parks, which invariably means driving, so having a car and transporting bikes--much more inclusive cycling access is needed in NI, with off-road and traffic-free routes from towns and cities through the countryside.

And this week's Ride On Belfast cycling event shows it is possible for @translinkni.bsky.social to accommodate bikes on trains, sensibly 06.00-07.30, but we need this not just one day a year but EVERY day to boost active travel in NI 👇
