Speaking at the Chancery Bar ethics conference this morning, on how and why some tax barristers write false opinions backing fraudulent schemes.

Our report: taxpolicy.org.uk/2026/01/16/r...
Rogue barristers are enabling a billion pound tax fraud
A small number of tax KCs issue opinions that they must know are wrong, blessing structures that are fraudulent. It plausibly costs the UK £1bn+ each year.

This is how appeasement of Trump affects you.

UK Govt will pay 25% more to US companies for NHS drugs, bigger corporate profits.

UK to Pay of another £7bn a year.

Impact - Britons pay higher taxes, face cuts in public services, or face misery and premature death.

Some special relationship!

👎👎👎👎
Appeasing Trump.

OECD exempts US companies from global minimum tax rules. Trump binned previous treaty.

UK remuneration of private equity execs taxed as capital gain instead of wages. Capital gains taxed at lower rate than wages.

Wales has brought in rules to sack politicians who deliberately lie.

Under the rules Politicians who repeat lies can be put to a vote and removed

Of course Westminster and the BBC screamed this rule was 'terrible'

I doubt many who work there would last 1 day with these rules

Tory legacy

In 2025, 554,018 people were left waiting on NHS England hospital A&E trolleys for more than 12 hours - 48,626 in 2021.

The waiting times are the worst since figures began.

NHS suffers from lack of investment, drained by PFI and privatization profits.

Trump wants to retain hegemony of US capital.

Tariffs shield US capital from competition.

Wants disintegration of the EU, supports far-right parties. Elon Musk wanted to hand $100m to Reform.

Up to 500% tariffs on BRICS countries to prevent their rise and possibilities of a multi-polar world.
