As of August, do we know what fossil CO2 emissions will do in 2025?

I made an estimate in July, using IEA projections of fossil fuel use, to estimate 0.8% growth in 2025.

Carbon Monitor has an estimate based on Jan-Jun data, 0.7%.

But what about countries?

New paper. I wish this wasn't the case, but most progress on reducing US greenhouse gas emissions is likely spurious. Why? EPA underestimates methane emissions from oil and gas. Relevant today as Repubs vote to gut IRA's methane monitoring/mitigation program. 🧵

National Energy and Climate Plans are crucial planning tools for EU energy, yet few countries provide complete data.

High-quality data is essential for confident planning and investment around the energy transition.

Habecks Heizgesetz bleibt wohl unberührt: So wurden wir belogen

The US EIA posts LNG export prices - and they are pretty different for different EU countries!

(my first guess would be that age and length of the contracts play an important role)

Spain's power is slowly coming back, but situation still far from normal. Out of the 33 GW scheduled for this evening peak, only 18 GW is available. Nuclear and coal-fired power plants still offline.

Here are the modelled implications of the IMO's draft Net-Zero framework by @transenv.bsky.social. Looks like a modest impact in the short-term with most of the deviation from BAU coming under the next US presidential term.

8) And this one is important.

For all the talk about the powerful pro-Trump media ecosystem, the share of Americans who have heard negative business news coverage of the government has exploded.

Evidently even the podcast bros can’t distract Americans from the realities of the stock market.

3) That was just the US version.

What’s particularly impressive is that he’s managed this on a global scale.

Starting to get the feeling that “Trump” annotation is going to be the chart equivalent of a layer of volcanic ash in the fossil record.

🚨 The IMO negotiations have reached a critical moment: The EU needs to stay on course to promote a global scale-up of renewable hydrogen and derivatives (e-fuels).

💰 The policy options on the table differ considerably, by a factor of 3 to 4

🗳️ This makes the upcoming decision by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) so important for the global #H2 ramp-up: It will either
↗️ provide much-needed demand for #renewablehydrogen and derived fuels, or
↘️ delay their use by promoting #LNG and #biomass in the early years.
