Me: It's probably not worth it for me to look through the cast of Fanny and Alexander. What are the chances I know this slate of Swedish actors from any other project?

Me later: THE MAID WAS ANAKIN SKYWALKER'S MOM?!?!

I did this completely by accident, but 'Wake Up Dead Man' and 'Fanny and Alexander' make for a surprisingly well-matched double feature: for the great and terrible power of stories and imagination on the one hand, and for the role of religion and spirituality in our lives on the other.

I know you're out there somewhere, disgruntled Disney animator. This is your moment.

Wake Up Dead Man is a great film on its own merits. But without giving anything away, it also serves as a reminder that Rian Johnson was, and remains, a brilliant choice to tell stories within Star Wars.

Don't mind me, just figuring out how I can move into the knockoff version of Whoville from the Roku screensaver.

I finished Tiny Toons! The last episode is an homage to It's a Wonderful Life, and I love the fact that only is Buster's guardian angel a pastiche of Jimmy Stewart, but in another nice nod, the angel turns out to be a six foot tall white rabbit named Harvey!

Time to fill in my biggest sci-fi blind spot. I am officially starting Doctor Who! This is my next big watch project, and I assume it'll only take me like thirty years or so to catch up.

Q: What do you call Daniel Craig's stand-in on the set of Knives Out?

A: a Fill-in-the-Blanc

2015's 'Krisha' is an extraordinary but emotionally brutal film. It reminded me of 'Rachel Getting Married' in its fly-on-the-wall realism mixed with the bracing truths of fractured families. The movie itself is outstanding, but it was probably a mistake to watch it on the day before Thanksgiving!

This is the closest thing to a Tiny Toons Thanskgiving special.

I wouldn't call the Ironheart series well-written exactly. There's too many tonal problems and rough bits of dialogue for that. But it's...soundly built? Every payoff has a setup. Every major character has a motivation that leads to some kind of emotional catharsis. It's not great, but it's sturdy.

A national bond that transcends race, religion, politics and class is our shared agreement that the Muppets are real. They are real people with jobs and lives. Listen to that crowd screaming. They know they're seeing a celebrity.

Donald Trump's policies would be horrible no matter who they came from. But moments where he calls a reporter "piggy" after she asked him about the Epstein files are a reminder that the guy's personally just a piece of shit and completely beneath the dignity of his office.

It doesn't bother me that I made this same joke four months ago. It bothers me that the Mountain Goats retweeted this one.

Ah the joys of looking up classic film references from the Tiny Toons' Halloween special, only to fall down a rabbit hole about one fan impersonating a rival fan while stalking a cast member to escalate their feud on a forum for erotic Tiny Toons fan fiction.

The internet may have been a mistake.

I regret to inform you that I finally tried a PSL and liked it.

I expect to be fitted for my oversized "I'm Basic" sweater shortly, and then I'll dutifully report for my public shaming without delay.

I won't deny that even Parks and Rec's cynical-but-goofy view of the world looks a little too rosy today. But whatever its mistakes, framing Leslie Knope as the show's champion -- someone who does tireless, thankless work becasue she cares about her town and her community -- wasn't one one of them.
The reason 30 Rock succeeds years later while parks and rec has aged like a toilet full of milk, is that 30 Rock doesnt shy away from portraying Liz Lemon as an obvious villian with a victim/hero complex, whereas Leslie Knope was played just a straight hero character, even tho she is a neolib shill

Kudos to Dan Castellaneta, who voiced not one, but two parodies of Jimmy Stewart's character in Rear Window: one for The Simpsons and one for Tiny Toon Adventures. These episodes aired less than two years apart from one another!

"Actually Romantic" by Taylor Swift is the best song Everclear never wrote.

(Though the bridge sounds a bit more like The Toadies to me.)
