Distance 500 light years
Once a normal spiral galaxy it collided perfectly (bulls eye) with another galaxy who's shock wave created this unique structure.

Each color shows the passage of time. As the bright flash of light left the star, it illuminated the dust surrounding it, but because space is so big, we actually see the light travelling and illuminating the dust as it goes along.

Who doesn't love the Orion Nebula!? It has such dynamic range that you need to treat it as HDR with stacking exposures (3,30,300 seconds). The cotton candy like color is from using a special filter that passes H-alpha and O-III emission bands, processed as HOO instead of RGB.
