Wow. The Senate voted 99-1 to kill Ted Cruz's stupid "moratorium" on state AI regulations.

Big win for civil society, a ton of groups weighed in against this as it was gaining momentum.

Classic example of a terrible idea no one likes that could have become law if people didn't organize & fight

@prisonculture.bsky.social and I have been encouraging people to read chapter six of our book, Let This Radicalize You, which deals with the question of "violence" in social movements. We have decided to share the chapter publicly, to offer some context and grounding for the current conversation.
Protest, Power, and the Violence Debate

Right wing politicians fully know that people will migrate, know that trans people will exist, know that sex work will happen, know that many people use drugs, know that the planet is burning..

Point of criminalization, dehumanization & denial is not actual beliefs - its cruelty to create precarity

b/c PP doesn’t want the ballot to protect someone who is 24+ pregnant. PP is sacrificing these women for a ballot that doesn’t change what currently exists. If repealed, the women wouldn’t be prosecuted/jailed/executed. But if that’s a good thing, why is a PP ballot continuing to criminalize them? 🧐
Hearing that a bill to repeal the 1911 Nevada law this woman was charged under is being tabled thanks to pressure from reproductive rights groups.

When legacy outlets present both sides of a story to "let the reader decide" it falls on other people to highlight certain details. Details like how the cop who got a Nevada woman arrested after a 2018 stillbirth thought she was a bad mom and then—while the woman was in prison—took her fetal remains

This may be one of the worst moments in history to fetishize the law or the quality of being law-abiding.

highly rec the SOIL pod greenhouse, for those trying to build a pod & also for **prioritizing dedicated time** to gather up with your existing pod(s) if you have one
if you're looking for folks to start a pod w, you can comment underneath and hopefully find some folks. you can also attend a SOIL Pod Greenhouse (many people have found folks). We'll be posting the dates for 2025 in the next month. You can join our email list here:

Telling folks to just "plug in to community" rn is well-meaning and if you can do that, wonderful. But most people are not super connected to community for many reasons. So, if you don't have community rn that's ok, consider finding 2-5 ppl you can form a pod with.

It will be easy to fall into a pattern of dunking & reacting in these times. Performing disapproval can be a consuming pastime & it is not enough. Refuse to abandon vulnerable people. Build a rebellious culture of care. If you need help, @prisonculture.bsky.social and I wrote a book to assist you.

The abortion rights field is trying to play both sides with bodily autonomy. Protect self determination AND the state’s power to *regulate* decision-making and police pregnancy.

This simply has not and cannot work.
