Our review is out 🎉

We discuss how neural computations in the retina shape behavior, continuing the top-down tradition of Lettvin et al.'s classic bug-detector neurons

Interesting study from Germany on e-bikes and the modes they replace:

"43.1% of electric bicycle trips and 63.2% of electric bicycle mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions"
Further, steeper, greener: Implications from an electric bicycle mode choice model
Electric bicycles are transforming the active mobility landscape, potentially increasing active mode uptake and delivering environmental and health benefits. This study examines electric bicycle mo...

The ICE budget is now set to be approximately what the NIH budget was. We’re shifting money from solving real problems to solving fictitious problems.

Canst thou not minister to a mind diseas’d,
Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,
Raze out the written troubles of the brain,
And with some sweet oblivious antidote
Cleanse the stuff’d bosom of that perilous stuff
Which weighs upon the heart?

A few shots from today's #NoKings march in Chicago. I still haven't seen a final count but it was tens of thousands.
A photo of a group of protesters in Chicago walking. One in the center is holding a large sign that has pills drawn on it and pill bottles attached to it. The sign reads "there isn't enough lorazepam for this!" A photo of a large street demonstration in Chicago. In the center of the frame are the CTA L tracks. Below them in the front of the frame is a large group of people marching out of focus. Under the tracks in the center of the frame you can see more people streaming down the street. Further back in the far distance there are people marching down other streets. An upside down American flag is being hoisted into the air far back in the frame.

This photo covers the distance between Michigan Ave (closest to the bottom of the frame) to at least Dearborn Aveneue down Randolph. Every block heading north and south had people marching on it. A photo of a large street protest in Chicago. In the center of the frame is a person wearing a Spiderman costume. They're holding up a sign that reads "you call them illegals? I call them neighbors. And I protect my neighborhood." To their right is a person wrapped in an American flag taking a selfie. Many other people are in the background. A photo of a large street demonstration in Chicago. At the front many people are holding a large banner that reads "NO KINGS" with several crowns that have red X's through them. Many people are marhcing behind the banner, holding signs and flags.

NEW: In the last few hours, Minnesota authorities warned people against attending protests, with a killer on the loose.

This is the current view of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

I'm floored.

This is ONE stretch of ONE side of the street in deep red, small town Knoxville, TN today.

This is a city that Trump won in 2024 by 20+ points.

The scope of these protests are massive—American from both sides of the aisle are pissed.

There will be no kings.
