Night night sweet dreamies

Sometimes in life, you just need a hug. No words, no advice, just a hug to make you feel better.

Here’s a virtual hug from me to you ❤️

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

Nyambeni has discovered that partitions are merely suggestions, not boundaries!

Our budding mini-matriarch scales the low fence with determination, desperate to reach the other side where her precious charges await. No barrier is too tall when there are babies to protect and comfort.

I had found an unaccompanied item

I duly applied the H-O-T protocol

It’s not Hidden
It is Obvious
It is most certainly Typical: typically tasty 🧡

In the early 2010s it was infuriating to see endless screeds on "legitimate concerns" against East Europeans from analysts and scholars who seemed oblivious to how the moment political leaders capitulated to this xenophobia it would just lead to escalating hatemongering against other diasporas

It was inevitable that “too many people speaking Polish” Brexitism would become outright “too many brown people”

And it’s what people like Gove, David Davis and Johnson enabled

Nothing says "I want independent judges" like threatening to sack any judge who disagrees with you, while holding up a judge's wig like a puppet

It is even more depressing for the people in Britain, who will suffer the consequences.

I still don't understand why people can be so stupid to look at what is going on in the US, and think "I'll have me some of that!".

Robert Stephenson's Rocket demonstrated winning performance on this day 1829 during the Rainhill Trials to decide on a locomotive for the Liverpool-Manchester line, the first inter-city passenger railway. It clocked 29mph at various points.

Just to be clear, an English degree - learning to critically assess texts - is actually one of the most dangerous for people such as Badenoch.

An educated population, able to bring hundreds of years of context to statements in a dawning age of AI slop and attention-seeking dishonesty is also vital.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

Excellent letter from the Bishop of Birmingham to Robert Jenrick.

At a time when so many other voices have been silent, the bishops have been admirably outspoken against attempts to stir up division.

The churches do a lot of community cohesion work & do not want to see this trashed for party gain.

Lethal skewering this, in particular this paragraph skewering the idea that Handswortg is an integration failure when it is a multi-ethnic integration success story.

As Mrs Merton might say “what is it about this 9% white ward that led you to frame it as an integration failure?”

If only someone had warned us that leaving the world’s biggest single market might make us vulnerable to, you know, markets.

But we wanted to “take back control.”

Congratulations - we’ve taken it all the way back to the 1970s.
