Well, in case you do decide to explore the fediverse a bit, I'd probably start somewhere like writing.exchange/about for your interests.

Right now I'm mainly using bluesky, but it's always good to have a plan B.
Writing Exchange
A small, intentional community for poets, authors, and every kind of writer.

On a technical level I much prefer it (it's actually decentralised, you can't be banned from Mastodon, only from a particular server). It isn't as easy to use however (you've got to choose a server to start with) and the writing community is small/mostly SFF.

An autistic woman is using her name recognition to bring awareness about genocide and putting her own body in harms way because you don’t care about people getting tortured unless they’re white. Try that for a headline, chaps.

Finished POSTHASTE MANOR by
@jolietoomajan.bsky.social & @carsonwinter.bsky.social from @tenebrouspress.bsky.social last night, and it hit all my buttons. From the actual story content to the structure - mosaic narratives, smashing together genres, scrapbook media, wild tonal shifts. Its all there!

Not just you. My wife's black and she's been getting a lot more racial and misogynistic bullshit in public/at work recently. It's bad out there.

Seeing how things have been for my white collar friends in recent years has made me thankful that I work in a wax factory with machines from the '70s.

And less than 15 months in they've already doomed themselves simply by being themselves.

All they had to do was not be monsters and the people who didn't know any better would have held them up as heroes but they just couldn't not be monsters.

always feels weird seeing horror people romanticize The Conjuring’s version of Ed and Lorraine Warren because like… do you guys not know, or…?

First look at the distillery in my short horror story, Old Tom. Available in full for free here: www.ferenbrooke.com/short-storie...

#horrorfiction #horrorlit #WritingCommunity #shortstory
A screenshot of some text from the story linked above. It reads: Blackwell Road branched off Stone Street on the other side of the bridge. The old distillery was just a short ways up the road, visible from Stone Street proper. I had vague recollections of standing outside it as one of a clutch of teenage boys, sharing a cigarette after youth club. Just one of many disused relics, its fallow grounds and chipped bricks hadn’t seemed worthy of note to my young mind. Indeed, until we rounded the corner onto Blackwell Road and it filled the sky in front of us, I couldn’t quite conjure a solid image of the place. Even now, looking back, the exact angles elude me. The slope of the roof surely wasn’t as steep as I remember it, the angles at which the walls met could not have been as sharp as my mind’s eye holds them to be.

Remember how scary it was for the 36 hours where it felt like the Right could explode into violence as a repercussion of an assassination? That's what our trans brothers & sisters feel like every fucking day

We have to protect them at all costs. They are our line in the sand; not a bargaining chip.

This is untrue on most major issues (though the media eıite don't know this). It is untrue on immigration in particular. Untrue on climate, on Trump, on human rights, on inciting racism. And much else

So, given that I post short horror stories on my own website, would the #webfiction hashtag be appropriate? Or is that usually just for serials in particular (SFF?) genres on platforms like Royal Road?

Yeah I feel you. I'm gonna write to my MP about this, seems about the only thing I can do.

It'd make for uncomfortable but necessary reading, I suspect. I'm about as far from academia as you can get, just a factory worker without a degree, but even I can see the value in that sort of work. Whether anyone in a position if authority would pay attention is quite another matter, of course
