You probably mean, "for the first time since the Industrial Revolution"?
🤔

Before that, renewables was all we had ...

Similarly, there used to be a chain across the mouth of the river Dart between Dartmouth & Kingswear castles.

This was Gimli, a half-burmese ex-tom. He agreed to accept us as his humans after his previous human (a friend of ours) had to move away & couldn't take him.
Did a fine job of keeping the local pigeons in check.
Lived with us 6 years, until he died of cancer in 2023 at almost 19.
We still miss him.

On a more serious note, it seems that they were only "floppy" in English?

(many? most?) other languages said something based on "diskette"?
January 11, 2026 at 12:58 PM
Indeed - here's some with the "diskette" branding.

"diskette" didn't distinguish 3½" floppies from the larger ones - it applied to *all* floppy disks.

But still, everyone just called them all "floppies", and they went into a "floppy drive"
January 11, 2026 at 12:13 PM
Here we go - some 8" diskettes!
January 11, 2026 at 12:03 PM
IBM used the term "diskette" for their 8" floppy disk product in 1973 - it long predates the hard-cased 3½" floppy.

So "diskette" can properly be applied to *all* sizes of floppy disk - it does not distinguish the 3½" size from its larger predecessors.

@basingstokegov.bsky.social (our council) has a great page on their website where you enter your address and it tells you exactly when your collections are - including the Christmas/New Year changes.

Is it working?

Is a UK plug actually any bigger than that great big EU one in the picture? It's hardly compact, is it?
