Without any sponsorship, Ada Lovelace Day relies on the generosity of the community to get anything done. Could you chip in to help me attend a couple of ALD-related events? I'd love to raise another £400, which would see me through the month.

I've had confirmation from the British Library that they do indeed have copies of some letters between Ada Lovelace and Florence Nightingale, so now planning a trip into London to see those. If you can donate a fiver to help me continue ALD-related work, I'd be very grateful. And please share!
Last year, nearly one hundred people donated to ensure I could move the Ada Lovelace Day website to a new hosting platform, go to four events, and run ALD online in October.

With the arrival of a New Year, though, comes the need for a new fundraiser:

Sick of people's snobby attitude to fake Christmas trees. Had mine for over 20 years so far better than digging up 20 real ones and leaving them out to die

It's only a diskette if it comes from the Disquette region of France.

Otherwise it's just a 3½" floppy.
I am the exact kind of pedantic nerd that would make this kind of argument if it were true, but I am also old enough to have used these. And yes, we just called them floppies. Almost nobody actually said diskette.
there is a woman on TikTok who has been arguing for months now with randos that keep insisting that nobody called 3.5" disks "floppy disks" or "floppies" at the time. it's weird. no matter what kind of proof she provides or how many agree with her, people are coming out of the woodwork to disagree

It's quite incredible how this poor and inaccurate tool has been prioritised and integrated *so* effectively that I regularly have people tell me something they've 'looked up' and I have to say 'you're not just reading the AI overview are you' and they are.

This doesn't sound specific to bicycles - I think the same applies generally to physical product development, manufacturing, & sales.

As the saying goes, #hardware is hard - not just to develop, but also to manufacture & scale.

Do people still refer to switching TV channels as seeing what's on "the other side"?

Or is that just showing my age?

Absolutely!

Christmas Day is the *first* day of Christmas.

Attention people who take their tree down on Boxing Day. This is entirely wrong-headed. Christmas is a period that starts with Christmas Day not ends with it.
