It's quite astounding how little they let her talk considering how often they take her photograph.

So now, 'transmed' is just a word thrown around amongst scared people who have different levels of anxiety about their relationship to transness, who might be scared of transition or think it's icky, or who might be projecting their fear of having their HRT taken away onto other scared trans people.

Not anymore, anyway. The rising tide of informed consent and liberal gender politics has kind of washed them by the wayside, for the most part, which is a good thing.

Like, we've all heard of Brianna Wu, but does anyone of note pretend to take her seriously? Or even like her?

They're not great. They can be TERFy in that very particular cisfatalist way. "Yes, I AM sick, and I'll never be a woman, but I have hormones and surgery and this doctor's note, so please don't be mad at me?"

They're pathetic, cowards, and contemptible.

But they don't really have much power.

"If we keep our head down, don't make a fuss, and only transition in numbers that acceptable to the cis, we'll be fine! We just have to be perfect and smiling and let ourselves be subject to any abuse doctors want to put us through, and if many die in the closet that's a price I'm willing to pay!"

Transmedicalism can be a class thing, but you'll find even survival sex workers who are super invested in this model. It's more about how healthy your relationship to your own transness is, than whether you really benefit from these beliefs.

And yeah, transmeds usually want to RESTRICT care.

Some places have trans orgs that are very transmed, or are organised entirely by transmeds. My co-author @tpwrtrmnky.bsky.social has talked about the Norwegian one with me a few times.

In that sense, they sometimes weild outsize power, but that's more because they're usually affluent dipshits.

And they do indeed suck to interact with and be around. They think everyone into neopronouns or bodily autonomy or "not going all the way" makes them look bad. It's annoying.

Transmeds, insofar as you want to concern yourself with the beliefs of trans people and not cis gatekeepers, are basically the most insecure people in our community. They are riddled with self-hate, which gives them an authoritarian mindset. They plead with wider cis society that they're just sick.

Transmeds are trans people who believe there is a very rigid and defined criteria for being trans. What's the criteria? Whatever the doctors you have access to say.

It's about being a cuck for the medical-psychiatric complex that oppresses and restricts our access to care. Not online drama.

It doesn't mean "trans person who thinks HRT is important". It actually doesn't even mean "trans person who's kind of an asshole and constructs and implicit hierarchy of transness based on whether or not you take HRT", even though that kind of feels true, doesn't it?

It's more about the diagnosis.

'Transmedicalism' is a really narrow thing. It's not quite a historical artifact, because Brianna Wu and her ilk exist. There's an account on here I won't name who is the textbook definition of transmend; she thanked me for an essay I wrote once, then argued in my mentions that trans dykes are fake.

These times are when I truly understand the addiction centrists have to insufferable smugness because it does feel good. I can put on a monocle and a top hat and stroke my long-hair pussy while going "I daresay none of the parties involved have an affinity for literacy!"
