Our horror at the genocide in Gaza, at the mass murder of civilians on Oct 7 2023, and at today's atrocity in Manchester, comes in each case from the same, inherent part of our shared humanity. We need to assert that shared humanity as loudly as possible, and in as many practical ways as we can.

God bless and protect the members of the Samud Flotilla, who were abandoned by the Spanish and Italian navies at the 11th hour much as the world has abandoned the people of Gaza. Bless them for refusing to forget Palestine. Bless them for not giving up when so many of us have failed Gaza.

“We can put a halt to arms trafficking, the trafficking of death. […] We are fortunate to work at the port, because we do not see the horizon. We have only the sea ahead. The sea allows you to dream constantly, dream that you can get it done”

OpenAI's rapid rush into education has been achieved by habituating users through training programs, institutional lock-ins, strategic marketing partnerships, and third party integrations that together are helping it become infrastructural to teaching and learning. It's going to be hard to get out.

OpenAI's VP for education recently said the company wanted to become "core infrastructure" for schools and universities. Any infrastructure, though, always depends on habituating users to its technical affordances - so I've been trying to track how it's doing that 🧵 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/t...

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

There is a lot of demand for digital privacy and security advice out there right now and lots of people are giving advice and writing guides. I beg them to do a few things:

1. Be explicit about the threat model your advice is meant for.
