What was that the late President Johnson said? "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office
2) Elected officials rewrite rules in the donors' favor
3) Donors make huge profit
4) Repeat

We must get big money out of politics.

It is the root of our dysfunction.

I’m still thinking about “quiet, piggy.” No president should be able to speak to a member of the press that way and remain president. That moment encapsulates how vile, misogynistic, and horrible that man is.

Democracy dies in silence.

…when people are too afraid or don’t care enough to speak up.

Not today.

MILLIONS of Americans and allies of freedom and democracy, here and around the world, are taking to the streets.

Showing their love of country and defiance of tyranny.

It’s a beautiful sight.

A sane country would begin impeachment proceedings ASAP. Or yesterday. Or not have reelected him. Or not have elected him at all in the first place.

If ANY other president had been caught DMing directives for the Attorney General to indict his political enemies it would have been game over.
Impeached. Removed.

But not Trump.
With Donald Trump, it’s just another fucking day ending in Y.

It will never not be wild that the people who never stopped talking about Biden’s alleged corruption haven’t said a word about Trump’s actual corruption, which is on wildly larger scale.

In a less insane time, if it was discovered that the President of the United States said this privately to their AG, it would’ve triggered an all-encompassing, impeachable corruption scandal.

Here, Trump is saying it publicly and it’s just another Saturday.

Pressuring TV networks to fire late night talk show hosts for criticizing him.

Suing newspapers for reporting he doesn’t like.

If this were happening in another country, what would you call it?

Brett Meiselas: The tone is set from the top. And now, we have a president of the United States infecting the population.

There has never been a more divisive, more corrupt individual in the presidency...trickle-down economics may not work, but trickle-down assholery? That’s absolutely a thing.
