As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis stated in 1933; “We can have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we cannot have both.”

Today, at a time of unprecedented income & wealth inequality, his words ring truer than ever.

At the Antique Mall yesterday, I was briefly shocked by the significant increase in Third Reich memorablia. There’s always been WWII items, but for the first time in 30 years of antiquing there were multiple pendants and flags and other pieces.

Did they just invent a peace prize to give to (insert president here) because he didn’t get the Nobel?
Why does our current political sphere feel so much like a toddler classroom?

I’m almost impressed by their commitment.

I’d like to shop in a grocery store that is truly organized by product—ex all pasta is together—instead of perpetuating othering by having separate “ethnic” sections.

At the museum today, I was struck by this piece. All three men are looking at the woman, whose gaze is downturned. The name of the piece indicates it’s her story. The names of all three men are carved into the base. So I found myself asking the important and haunting question: “what was her name?”

I spent Sunday with a few toddlers who were in the" I hand you things, you hand them back" phase.
Yesterday, I sent an email to a former co-worker asking for Hallmark movie recommendations.

These are the same things. Small, simple connections with others, a way to feel part of a group.

You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.
