Do not let me in a private kitchen with a superb baguette and a stick of high-end salted butter. The butter-to-bread ratio is not something I can display in public.

I still can't figure out why this, of all works, was published openly. It's not exactly an easy read for the general public!

During a shutdown, the federal government furloughs all but the most essential employees (the 8chan recruit who posts groyper memes to the DHS X account).

Her stuff seems fine, except in my area of expertise when she’s wildly and floridly incorrect - which causes me to take with a grain of salt everything she asserts outside my area of expertise.

I mean aren’t “summer of love hippies” now the most demonic reactionaries alive?

CHOTINER: I don't know, I just feel like I've been tacitly operating in a moral framework that would fall apart with even the barest scrutiny. But maybe that collapse would bring new clarity

I remember seeing an article a while back that had Richard Dearlove go through his personal StB file. He was pleasantly surprised to read that they considered him a legitimate diplomat throughout his posting!

By the way, do you have a copy of Bissell’s speech?

I think this is putting it a *bit* too boldly, though I agree with your overall point. There was/is some utility to clean slots for early career officers (eg Marti Peterson). But yeah, as @wylienewmark.bsky.social said, the important thing is to conceal the operational act. Cover for action > status

I take your point, but both demographically and anecdotally I think Gen X are the real villains. Perhaps the Superman comics stuck for the boomers?

Covert, not clandestine. But yes, absolutely. The spiral we’re about to see is why states act covertly in the first place!
